School Building and Learning Environments

School as the second home

We don’t just build schools – we want to build schools where children feel at home.

When our School-building team visits the communes in which we work, our biggest priority is to build safe, attractive, hygienic and long-lasting schools.

However, walls, ceilings and floors are not our only priority – or challenge! This year, our team has intensified the work we do on what we call Learning Environments. This project involves everything that make a school a fun and inspiring place to be and study.

When you are a child in school, learning is difficult to enjoy if you have to spend the whole day in a classroom that lacks bright colours, decent light or adequate air ventilation. Imagine that you can’t go out to play either, because your playground is nothing more than a field of mud without shade from the scorching sun.

To date, SCC has built 5 kitchens and 14 safe play grounds for schools and kindergartens in our target provinces. We have also given classroom furniture and outdoor toys for 11 sites and planted trees in more than 6 school yards.

Several companies have understood our mission and taken part in our Challenge Days in which they have joined to clean old classrooms, paint their walls, plant trees and carry out needed restorations.

Learning Environments also take environmental impact into consideration. Waste treatment models, training in proper garbage disposal and water purification project may also be part of our future for the schools we build, and we are currently researching the feasibility of these introductions.

We increasingly train teachers, parents, students and local authorities in how to effectively utilise and maintain their facilities to ensure that buildings last to serve as many generations as possible.

We do this training to encourage our children to take responsibility for what is their school .

If your family or organisation is interested in helping us build safe and motivating Learning Environments, please contact our Events Manager ms Phuc on phuc@saigonchildren.com.
