This spring we opened a superb new kindergarten in Tien Giang with a total of 4 classrooms each with a restroom, 2 teachers’ rooms and a fence to protect the children and the facilities. These classrooms will benefit up to 100 children every year and hopefully inspire them to learn their ABCs!
We opened this kindergarten with the help of Premier Oil, Santos, PVEP joint venture and one anonymous sponsor, in Kieng Phuoc, one of the poorest communes in this part of Tien Giang. It has a population of 15,697 people who live on an average monthly income of VND350,000 (US$18), while nearly 1800 people in the commune earn just half of this!
The children of Kieng Phuoc kindergarten are signing on the opening ceremony of new school.
We also built a kitchen to ensure that the children can stay at the school during lunch to alleviate parents – usually mothers – from time spent on transport in order to enable them to spend more time on earning an income for the whole family.
Another school opened in Tra Vinh province in February, and we can already announce two new schools planned to open in May and June - one in Dong Nai province and one in Tra Vinh Province.
Children are giving flower to welcome representatives on the opening ceremony of a new school in Tra Vinh.
