Another spectacular night and a spectacular achievement too
The 2013 Saigon Summer Ball was held on Friday 7th June and welcomed 365 guests to the Ballroom on the third floor of the Sheraton Saigon Hotel. This was the fifth year that the event has been held and the event seems to get better and better every year.
This year the event had Frasers Law Company as our Premier Partner with support once again provided by Moet & Hennessy as well as a hue range of other sponsors and supporters.
The event is designed to be an elegant and star-filled night for the guests with superb quality food and wine as well as being an important fundraiser for SCC. The emphasis always being on ensuring that everyone has a great night out as well as knowing that they have played a part in helping children to get to school.
This year was spectacular in two ways. The design of the night and the lighting and entertainment all came together to produce an evening that moved slowly from early evening, through sunset into midnight. But it was also spectacular in that this year we raised around $75,000 net of all costs. Thanks to some outstanding work and encouragement provided by SCC’s Chairman, Alain Cany, and Mark Fraser who is a member of SCC’s Board of Trustees as well as the founder of our Premier Partner, we had some extraordinary prizes on offer for our live auction particularly.
Three nights in Singapore to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix courtesy of Standard Chartered Bank as well as flights with help from Singapore Airlines combined to make this our top live auction item going for $10,000. We were also very fortunate to have two stunning properties offered to us to auction on the night. Again combined with flights, we had a truly exceptional house in Queenstown, New Zealand given by anonymous donors as well as a villa in Koh Samui. They went for $8,000 and $6,000 respectively. Other items include a magnificent Magnum of 1991 Chateau Lafite which had been given to the donor by one of the Rothschild family themselves so it was a bottle with a history and went for $2,500. One other high-bidding gift was provided by AIG and their signed All-Blacks jersey went for an astounding $4,500.
The silent auction also had some great opportunities on offer with the highest bidded item including two nights at the famous Nam Hai Hotel here in Vietnam, There were also mirrors, paintings, a signed AC Milan shirt by Robinho and a mystery box too.
The event saw the dance band for the night - The Pho Fighters – celebrate one of their final ever performances and they filled the dance floor and kept people there for 2 hours. A DJ called Justin Murta then took on the job and I heard that there were still people celebrating long after the event should have finished at 1:30 AM!
Thanks to our army of volunteers and to the Saigon Summer ball Team led by Jennifer Howell and to our very own staff here at SCC who did a remarkable job. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2014 – if you’ve not attended a Saigon Summer Ball before – make sure to put the next one in your diary for next year – we promise you a night-to-be-remembered!
