Fundraising's Updates

The past couple months was a hectic time for our Fundraising team as we had plenty of activities to keep us busy raising more funds to support our children.

In June, SCC successfully hosted our biggest annual event called The Saigon Summer Ball with the attendance of about 400 guests. The support from our sponsors such as BMW Euro Auto, Moët Hennessy and others was invaluable in contributing to the overall success of the event. The highlights of this year’s Summer Ball were “Project 88” and “The Price is Rice” – two quick competitions designed to raise money for our children to go to school in the upcoming year.

The net total of 42.682 USD that was raised at the event will definitely bring more opportunities for our children to access education!  Thanks again to Lisa Tobin who we also waved goodbye to after the Ball for her huge contribution to making the event such a success. Thanks too to Axel Hartmann for his enthusiastic contribution.

A month later, we welcomed 4 Englishmen - Sam Wilson, Callum Ewing, George Blurton and Jamie Richards, who set up “Ride4education” and who cycled from Hanoi to HCMC in 29 days to raise funds to support our university students. The great adventure brought them so many experiences with the local people and Vietnamese culture, changes in the weather along the rocky and challenging road and even severe sickness. But the reward they got came in the form of huge support from their family, friends and supporters and raised about $24,000USD for our children. Two or three of them then stayed and helped by volunteering too – they may not be challenging Bradley Wiggins yet but they are SCC’s four cycling champions!

We would like to make you excited about our forthcoming annual Charity Cycle Adventure to be held from 23rdto 25thof November. The route starts from Hue and ends in Hoi An while passing over the Hai Van Pass and the ChamTemplesof My Son. A $500USD registration fee covers all the costs of the ride, including flights, transport, bicycle and equipment, support bus and all your meals and accommodation. We also then ask you to get your network to help you fundraise a minimum of $500USD which will go directly to support SCC.

Joining in the ride will not only bring you a wonderful adventure but more importantly, it would also bring our children more opportunities to change their lives!
