In March, a very multinational trip to Tra Vinh took place. The Germans spoke French, the Thais spoke English, and the English babbled “XIN CH…AO…CA…M ƠN” (Hello, thank you in Vietnamese). I was the one with the interesting task of translating for everybody - I became a part of this group by luck. Together we attended the opening ceremony of a kindergarten in O-Et village, Phu Can commune, Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province.

Much to our surprise, we were warmly welcomed to the kindergarten by the sound of drums. The resounding rhythm of “boom boom clack clack boom – boom boom clack boom” created an excitement, and we were even more thrilled when we saw that children were the musicians. Celebrations, music and colourful flags accompanied us to the school yard. Children and their parents waved to us and gathered in the school-yard.
We were there to open the brand new kindergarten. The local representatives and teachers expressed their excitement to meet the foreign sponsors with smiles, applause and laughs - there was no need for words in this moment. Some children performed splendid dances in traditional Khmer clothing and looked like ancient little kings and queens when they prayed for a happy life for everyone present by throwing flowers into the air
Yes, a new school has come to the children in this O-Et village. With the support of international sponsors, a spacious and bright school has been built, - this helps the teachers to ensure a better atmosphere for the children; to cultivate their hearts and minds; and to prepare them for a better future. The children will be no longer be subjected to the rain, the wind, the sun or the dust. Most importantly, I think they will learn the meaning of charity and truth:
“TO BE LOVED, WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SHARE"
