THANG LONG ENGLISH AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHOOL

Current school situation

The school organised a training program to improve the English teaching skills of Vietnamese teachers. The instruction was given by foreigner volunteers who had professional knowledge in this field.  New skills and teaching methods were introduced to the Vietnamese English teachers to increase their quality of teaching English. The students learnt interested ways of conducting English lessons through class participation such as team-based projects and games.

In June,2015, Tran Van Hau, a former student of an art class, provided by SCC, joined in the ‘National Young Talent 2015’ competition in Hue city. Even though he didn’t receive the top prize, Tran Van Hau did benefit from positive feedback from specialists and spectators for his artwork.

Life skills education, second quarter of 2015

Thang Long school successfully organised three life skills educational courses for students who are taking vocational training classes at Thang Long school and other institutions. This consisted of skills in; communications, healthcare and management.

During these courses, along with learning theoretical knowledge, students were also divided into groups to gain some practical experience. This helped them absorb and apply easily what they had learnt.

The topics of ‘Healthcare’ and ‘Safe sex’ were felt to be of particular importance by some of the students.  A female student said: “This session today is very meaningful and interesting, especially the sharing and advice of Dr. Dat.  It was very helpful. These lessons give us the knowledge and show us how to protect our reproductive health”.

HOSPITALITY OPENING DAY OF 13TH BATCH

The 12th hospitality class, facilitated by SCC, ended successfully with 28 out of 31 students acquiring good quality jobs.  Due to their training the students are now able to benefit from a typical salary of 4 million VND per month at restaurants and hotels in HCMC.  This included; International Asiana Saigon, GK Central and the restaurant chain of Redsun Corporation.

Following this success, on the morning of the 8th of July, SCC celebrated an inauguration ceremony for 31 students for the 13th hospitality class. Participated in the ceremony were representatives of Repsol, SCC CIO, District 4 local authorities, parents and, of course, the students.

The course will take the students on an interesting and informative journey.  Although the course can sometimes be intense, the students will have a great experience with their new-made friends, and skilled teachers.  Above all, they will finish their course with a new vocation to help them have a better and more successful future.
