Maytronics, a company based in Australia, while on their trip Ho Chi Minh City kindly donated twenty bicycles as part of the ‘One Bicycle Can Save a Child’s Education’ campaign.
On the 4th of August 2015, twenty students from two secondary schools, Ngo Quyen and Nguyen Huu Canh in Cam My district, Dong Nai province, met with sixty employees from Maytronics. To add a bit of excitement to the day, instead of simply handing over the generously provided bicycles, the participants were challenged with assembling the bicycles. The children and Maytronics staff members were divided into ten small teams who competed in constructing two bicycles each. The teams would receive awards for their speed and quality of assembling, all under the watchful eye of a professional bicycle mechanic.
Most of the students at the event currently live around five or six kilometres from school. They are dependent on their friends to take them to school or have to go by foot. When receiving a new bicycle, one student shared that it not only helps her go to school more easily, but now, in her free time, she can help her family by going to the market. Steve, an employee of Maytronics shared "It’s a lot of fun to play with the children and I like to give back to the community, especially the disadvantaged students. What SCC is doing has touched all our hearts and we are, as a team, going to continue to show our support."
During the lunch, Karen, a member of Maytronics staff, surprised us all at SCC by going beyond all expectations. She actively promoted SCC’s campaign, and products to all the Maytronics employees, with the moto, ‘you can buy a SCC bag or donate’. Maytronics employees, in turn, responded so generously and we were amazed to be given any extra 8,380,200 dong by the end of the day.
We are also please to say that Maytronics have since been in touch and are planning on helping us further in the future. SCC is extremely grateful to their hard work on the day and their continued generosity.
