Child Development Programme

Journeys open our hearts

With more than 2,500 children supported by our Child Development Programme, all team members regularly visit the children in their schools and their families too to make sure they are all happy at school and at home. Sometimes, it is also to share their difficulties with them and try to make everything better for the future. We have a lot of journeys! It can be one day long or a whole week. The distance does not matter. The most important thing is that through these trips, our eyes and hearts open wider because we have a first-hand chances to see a lot of extraordinary things in what may appear to be “normal’ lives.

We see a lot of LOVE of family’s member. In this family, the mother suffered from an accident that made her too weak to do almost anything except the most basic things. She does not even remember what exactly happened to her. So, she stays at home, spending most of her time on her bed and barely able to walk. Her children love her and know how to show their love as well. After school, they help her with the housework. They take care of each other and try their best to make their mother happy while their father is working hard to take care of the family.

The children always love their mother and their family

From another family, we see PRIDE from parents to their children. The parents are both illiterate and have forgotten almost everything that they learnt at school. But they keep their belief in Education and therefore they continue to encourage their children to go to school.  Their wish was heard. Their little daughter keeps trying hard to go to school every day although she has to ride her bicycle 40 kilometers every day to get to school and back home again. The roads are bumpy and deep inside to the rocky area.  That is why their parents are so proud of their little girl and so they hang all of her school certificate awards on the wall.

The certificates of Excellence brighten up their house

When visiting the house of another child below, we also see a lot of DREAMS behind every door and window; even the house is on the verge of collapsing. We can feel STRENGTH in every eye and word. We feel the FAITH in Education of every single member of family.  All of these things are ENCOURAGE us to keep moving ahead.

Dreams and hopes are everywhere in the house

*One of the children (the boy) from the first picture received SCC’s scholarship for the first time this year. His name is Tran Anh Tai. His father is a worker and his mother has a brain injury from a traffic accident (all too common here in Vietnam sadly) and can no longer work.  His father has to stay at home to take care of his mother since she is very weak from the injury.  Anh Tai does not only study hard but he also helps his family by helping with the housework and also helps take care of his younger sister after school as well.  Their financial condition is very precipitous and Anh Tai could drop out of school at any time. SCC is very glad that we can help Anh Tai in time and support him throughout his schooling in the future as well.
