On 11 August, 2015, SCC took a trip to Trung Phu High School, Trung An Secondary School and Binh Hoa Secondary School to give scholarships to 56 students. This was part of a number of scholarship-giving trips of SCC that support over 2000 disadvantaged students. SCC helps students in provinces in and around HCM City, such as: Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh, every school year.
On the trip, we had an opportunity to talk with Ms. Chau, who was a mother of student Chau Tuan. She was very happy while talking to us and warmly shared: “Today is my son’s first day at High School and also the day he received a scholarship from SCC. I was so touched about the occasion that I couldn’t stay at home and had to come with him to school. Thanks to SCC, he now has everything he needs to study. His father passed away when he just was 15 months old. I have been suffering from severe goitre for over 10 years so I unable to do heavy work. All I can do to earn money is peel nuts, and this is just enough for the family’s daily expenses. Without this scholarship, there is nothing I can do to keep my son in education. I was very glad to see him be interested in studying since he is my main motivation in my life. A few months ago, he had trouble with facial paralysis on one side of his face and his mouth was distorted. SCC kindly financially supported his medical treatment. Thanks to them, he has been getting better now, and there is less distortion in his mouth”.
Chau Tuan was successful in his entrance exam into Trung Phu High School – one of the best schools in Cu Chi province. He worked very hard to achieve this and was able to beat a number of other students to get the chance of enrolment. Chau Tuan is one of many children in the SCC Child Development Programme who receives a scholarship which supports him to overcome financial difficulties and keep him in education.
As the new school year has just started, SCC knows of many other students like Tuan who need financial support so they can have access to education. SCC is always looking for support to provide these scholarships and if you would like to help please call us at (84 8) 39 303 502 or visiting our website http://saigonchildren.com/vi/Default.aspx?pageid=32.
