Child Development Programme Autumn 2013

Ho Diep Thao was born and grew up in Dong Nai, one of the provinces supported by SCC’s Child Development Program. Just like many other children, Thao was schooled, had fun and grew up in the love and protection of her family. And then a sudden crisis rushed down to her family when she was in Grade 9. In that year, her family’s financial condition was at the bottom because of unsuccessful business of her parents and debts piled up and were not payable. At that moment, her schooling was becoming too difficult to keep on, though it had been at ease before. Through the local social workers, SCC had come and supported Thao just in time, so that she could overcome her obstacles in studying as well as in living.

In 2009, Thao graduated from High school and successfully got into The Law and Economics University, majored in Public Economic Management. SCC continued supporting her with a university scholarship. Then a tragedy had come to her family again, her beloved father was taken and her family circumstances were put on a line once more.  SCC always stayed next to Thao and cheered her up so that Thao could finish her degree and fulfill her dream of a future career. Besides that, Thao was invited to join in many training courses of soft skills and life skills run by SCC frequently, in order to equip her and other young people with both knowledge and skills when they came into life.

On her graduation day

Furthermore, Thao understood that “Giving is receiving”, during the time of receiving support from SCC, Thao actively joined in scholarship deliveries and volunteering in Saigon Cyclo Challenge fundraising event. In 2012, together with other 2 alumni, Thao contributed in forming SCC Alumni Network, where all SCC alumni can share smiles as well as tears together. Thao and other members created many useful activities and events for other children. Thao realized: “During the time working with the Network, I see myself growing up and appreciate more on meaningful supports from SCC and donors to children in difficulties”.

Thao has now graduated from the university with good grades and she is working for SHD Human Resource Ltd. Though Thao has just started her new chapter, SCC believes that she will be strong thanks to her persistence and well-trained skills, and especially the belief of SCC and her family in her. SCC always wishes her a very success and best of luck!
