In the last 3 months, we had two highlights that we would like to share with you in this newsletter. They were:

SCC SINGAPORE EXHIBITION 2014 – FINE PHOTOGRAPHY FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

On the 3rd of April, there was an exhibition of photographs taken by severely disadvantaged children and young people supported by Saigon Children’s Charity living in Ho Chi Minh City. This exhibition took place in Singapore, thanks, partly, to the support of Credit Suisse Singapore and also to three very special people called Beng, YY and Frances.

The competition had been organised by the young people studying photography at Thang Long School; a class which has had international recognition and success. The exhibition showed the top 30 photographs entered by the students into the competition.

The top 3 photos were also shown with the winning photographer joining the evening event. Student Nguyen Thanh Ngoc was the honoured person. His picture was not only the winner of the first prize but, amazingly, his pictures were also second and third! Clearly a talented young man. Part of his prize was a great trip to Singapore to receive his recognition as well as a high-quality camera as a prize sponsored by Cathay Photo. All of the photographs were on sale on the night and were sold by silent auction. Those remaining unsold were presented, the next day, in the foyers of Credit Suisse’s two buildings.

This is also an opportunity to showcase the long and happy partnership between SCC and Credit Suisse. SCC is very grateful to Credit Suisse for their support, not just with this event but, through the commitment and drive of their staff, with building schools and supporting children in Vietnam. All the money will directly go to children in Vietnam who are living with difficulties and cannot afford a good quality education.

SAIGON SUMMER BALL 2014 – THIS SUMMER’S “HOTTEST” NIGHT SO FAR MADE BY WARM-HEARTED GUESTS.

The 6th Annual Saigon Summer Ball took place in the five-star InterContinental Asiana Saigon on the 7th of June 2014. A massive thank you to all of our 385 wonderful guests who spent their Saturday evening at the event.

Together with their support, we are pleased to let you know that the event beat all previous records raising over $100,000 net on the night. What we raise helps enormously and, as a guide, every ten thousand dollars raised can:
•    help 100 young children from families living in difficulties to go to and stay in school for a whole year OR
•    provide bicycles for 100 children living more than 5km from school OR
•    support young people living in difficulties with a full university degree for four years (most likely as the first in their family to enter higher education).

Together with Frasers Law Company as our Premier Partner and the support once again provided by Moët & Hennessy and Standard Chartered, we welcomed Etihad Airways as one of our key sponsors as well as a great number of in-kind sponsors and supporters. Thanks, too, to Alain Cany, the Chairman of SCC, who provided his invaluable advice and guidance.

We would like to take this chance to thank our enthusiastic volunteers especially Catherine Guo and Nancy and the Saigon Summer Ball Committee led again this year by Jennifer Howell and to our very own staff here at SCC who did an outstanding job.  We and many of our guests are already looking forward to an even more fantastic Ball in 2015. We look forward to seeing our guests again next year and some have already put the date in their diaries! If you didn’t come this year – make sure to come next year and we look forward to seeing you there for a night of good fun, beautiful hearts and a great cause!

Challenge Days are coming:

In the next few months, there will be a lot of Challenge Days as a way that we welcome all warm hearts to contribute to our School Building and Learning Environment specifically, and to all our programmes in general. Every little bit of help will count. If you want to organise a motivational or team-building training trip for your company, please contact us at +84 8 3930 3502 or mai@saigonchildren.com.
